Syracuse men’s basketball will host Drexel on November 14

Syracuse will play Drexel for the fifth time in program history.

While off-season basketball attention has shifted toward the NBA Playoffs and TBT, the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team is still busy building its non-conference schedule. The Orange have scheduled the Drexel Dragons for a Nov. 14 meeting inside the Carrier Dome, per release.

Syracuse has played Drexel four times, with the Orange leading the series 3-1. The most memorable meeting came in the Second Round of the 1996 NCAA Tournament, where John Wallace led SU with 18 points to push Syracuse to the Sweet 16. SU beat the Dragons the last time the two teams played in 2010 (a 93-65 Orange win).

Drexel, for their part, is coming off a 12-8 campaign last season where the Dragons won the CAA Tournament and made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 25 years.

Syracuse still has a couple slots remaining for what should be a fairly challenging non-conference slate on top of the 20-game ACC schedule — though if we assume Colgate and Cornell make it on there, that could mean just one opening right now. The Orange will participate in the Battle 4 Atlantis and take of former Big East foes in Georgetown (at Capital One) and Villanova (at MSG). Syracuse will likely get a home game in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
