Get to Know Your Orange Man: #60, OT Matthew Bergeron

The experienced tackle is looking to elevate his game in 2021

NCAA Football: Boston College at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Matthew Bergeron

Position: Offensive tackle

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 315 lbs.

Hometown: Victoriaville, QC

High School: Cégep de Thetford

2020 stats: Started all eleven games at tackle for the Syracuse Orange, the last eight at left tackle.

2021 projections: Bergeron is going to be manning that left tackle position once again this fall. In his third season Syracuse will be looking for him to continue improving and become a more consistent blocker as the Orange need to protect the quarterback better this fall.

How’d he get here?: No other offers for Matthew but Mike Cavanaugh and Mike Lynch found themselves a player north of the border.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars from all the sites. He was noted as the #2 overall Canadian prospect as well.

Money quote: Matthew’s teammate Airon Servais was impressed with Bergeron’s ability to pick up the offense during his freshman year

“He’s done a really good job of picking up all our schemes and understanding the way plays are supposed to be blocked,” Servais said. “I think he’s a really intelligent player.”

Tweets of wonder: Did you think the Canadiens fan on this staff is going to miss the opportunity to post a quote tweet featuring JJ Watt wearing the bleu, blanc et rouge of his Wisconsin Badger hero Cole Caufield? It’s clear Matthew has wonderful taste as well

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: Dino is going to with “The Whole Ten Yards” which is set in suburban Montreal and while it’s not as good as the first movie, it’s a reminder to Matthew and the whole offense that they need to focus on getting first downs and keeping the chains moving.

Interesting nugget o’ interest: He was the first player from the Thetford Mines to be offered a Division I scholarship in football.

Let’s get a good look at ya: Here’s what Matthew had to say during his spring practice media appearance.
