Get to Know Your Orange Man: #80, WR Isaiah Jones

Yet another big receiver who could elevate his impact this fall.

NCAA Football: Liberty at Syracuse Pool Photo-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Isaiah Jones

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 193 lbs.

Hometown: Cocoa, Fla.

High School: Cocoa (via El Camino College)

2020 stats: Jones was largely on special teams for the Syracuse Orange last year, but tallied a tackle, as well as a fumble recovery vs. Liberty.

2021 projections: If we’re still assuming that Taj Harris is moving inside, then you’re going to see more of the team’s bigger targets get some burn. Jones will be on the short list of players trying to break through as an outside option opposite Anthony Queeley.

How’d he get here?: After a season at El Camino College in Torrance (hey, not too far from me!), he was able to get himself a scholarship offer from Syracuse. At El Camino College, he caught 19 passes for 238 yards and a score.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Nada. Alas...

Money quote: Jones made plenty of impact back in high school, and helped free up space for his teammates to operate, too. This from fellow Cocoa receiver Willie Gaines:

“I did get a lot of single-team, because they watched film and saw Isaiah Jones ball out last week and left me in open space. It stayed the same the whole game.”

Twitter feed: @Isaiahjones84

Tweets of wonder: If only this was a sign of more positives to come in this game...

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: I don’t see Babers being into too many horror movies, so when pulling up movies featuring actor Isaiah Mustafa, we’ll forego It in favor of 2011’s Horrible Bosses. Mustafa played Officer Wilkens in that film, which was pretty entertaining at the time — and probably holds up reasonably well given everyone’s relationship with their workplace in the last year.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Jones is not the only ACC athlete in his family. Tony Jones is a standout member of the Wake Forest track and field team.

Let’s get a look at ya: If we’re looking for a preview of some of the abilities he may be able to put on display this year.
