We’re about 100 days from college football kickoff, which is both a lot of time and not much time at all. So as we’re waiting for the Syracuse Orange’s first game against Ohio, perhaps you’d like to place a bet on how many games SU wins — or doesn’t win this season.
SportsBettingDime released initial college football over/under win totals on Thursday. Syracuse was included there, with a projected total of four wins on the season.
As you may have figured, that’s last in the ACC, a half-win behind Duke (4.5 wins).
The full conference breakdown, whether you’d like to place a bet on Syracuse (or another team) or not:
- Clemson (11.5)
- North Carolina (8.5)
- Virginia Tech (7.5)
- Wake Forest (7.5)
- Miami (7.0)
- Virginia (7.0)
- Louisville (6.5)
- Florida State (6.5)
- Boston College (6.0)
- Pittsburgh (6.0)
- NC State (5.5)
- Georgia Tech (5.0)
- Duke (4.5)
- Syracuse (4.0)
Same as we noted in the coach ranking article earlier, the big thing to note — beyond Syracuse being last — is how close these teams are clustered. That’s what happens when there just aren’t a lot of “great” teams in the conference, and when the talent level is so close that everyone just winds up slitting games against one another.
The Orange probably have two games they should win this year (Albany, Ohio), and then there’s a lot of uncertainty, which certainly informs the four-win over/under above. Liberty, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, NC State and Boston College are potentially all toss-ups. Since joining the ACC, we’ve struck out a lot in those toss-ups, save the 2018 season, when we nearly won all of them.
Anyone jonesing to make a bet? Know we thought SU’s season total over/under was easy money just a couple years ago, only to meet a rude awakening.
