Catching up with Syracuse’s spring sports

Let’s see how the Orange are doing

NCAA Football: Pittsburgh at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

With March Madness over we felt it was time to get you caught up on the other Syracuse Orange teams competing this spring. We know that men’s soccer shut things down early, but let’s see what the other teams have been up to recently.

Field Hockey

The Orange are 3-2 this Spring giving them an overall record of 8-6 (4-4 in ACC play). Syracuse will host their final two regular season games this weekend when they welcome the Virginia Cavaliers and UNC Tar Heels. Both games will be available on the ACC Network.

Volleyball

Syracuse went 3-5 during the spring season leaving them with an overall record of 7-9 for the 20-21 season. Lauren Hogan was named to the ACC All-Freshmen team after leading the conference in digs per set.

Tennis

The Syracuse tennis team finished the regular season with a record of 6-10 (5-8 in ACC). The Orange will compete next week in the ACC Championships in Georgia.

Softball

On the softball diamond the Orange are 15-11 on the season with an ACC record of 8-8 thus far. Syracuse had an 8-game winning streak, the program’s longest in ten years, and the team has made some noteworthy plays in the field.

Rowing

Syracuse retained the Orange Challenge Cup for the fourth straight year as they defeated the Northeastern Huskies last weekend. The 18th ranked Orange will compete in the Big Ten Invitational next weekend.

Track and Field

It’s early in the outdoor season but there are three Syracuse athletes who currently hold top-10 ACC performances. For the women, Anne Heffernan has the 4th-fastest 10k time right now while Shaleah Colaire has the 7th-fastest 400m hurdles time and she won the event in Miami last weekend. Meanwhile for the men, Anthony Vasquez holds the 10th-fastest 110m hurdles in the conference.

Men’s Crew

The Orange begin their 2021 season this weekend when they take on the Navy Midshipmen and George Washington.

We wish all these teams well and we’ll keep following as their seasons progress,.
