Last night the Syracuse Orange women’s ice hockey team knocked off the #1 seed Penn State Nittany Lions in the CHA Tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania. The 4th-seeded Orange will play Robert Morris tonight in the championship with an automatic NCAA bid on the line. Syracuse will be looking for their second CHA title and NCAA appearance in program history.
The Orange jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Penn State and held on as the Nittany Lions scored twice in the final period. Allison Small stopped 24 shots for the win and the Syracuse goals were scored by Madison Beishuizen, Anna Leschyshyn, and Emma Polaski.
Syracuse opened the 2021 CHA Tournament with a 6-0 win over Lindenwood University The Orange were led in that one by their leading scorer on the season, Jessica Digirolamo who had one goal and three assists. Other goal-scorers for the Orange were Victoria Klimek, Abby Moloughney, Mae Batherson, Rayla Clemons and Brynn Koocher. Allison Small got the victory in goal stopping all 29 of Lindenwood’s shots.
Before the CHA Tournament began the league handed out their conference awards and several Orange players were honored. Jessica DiGirolamo was named to the All-CHA 1st team and selected as Best Defenseman. Abby Moloughney was named Best Defensive Forward and named to the All-CHA 2nd team where she was joined by Allison Small. Hannah Johnson was named to the CHA All-Rookie team.
