Syracuse football recruiting: DT Belizaire Bassette commits to Orange

Reinforcements at defensive line are starting to trickle in

The Syracuse Orange football recruiting cycle is now in full swing as the 2022 class starts to take shape. Dino Babers and co. picked up a much needed defensive line recruit as 3-star DT Belizaire Bassette announced his commitment to the Orange on Saturday.

Bassette is rated three stars by 247sports and Rivals. Even at 6-foot-2, 270 pounds, he shows a quick ability to shed blocks from opposing guards to get to the backfield. Bassette will be a much needed defensive line recruit as Syracuse needs to acquire bodies on the defensive side of the trenches. Four Orange defensive linemen entered their names into the transfer portal this offseason, which will hamper the SU depth at that position in the near future (though they did load up on the position group again in 2021).

Syracuse beat out some stiff competition for Bassette’s commitment, with Power Five Schools such as Illinois, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt offering him. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Bassette went to high school at American Heritage — the same school as 2021 wide receiver signee Oronde Gadsden II. He becomes SU’s second straight commit on the defensive line after DE Malachi Davis committed yesterday. The duo join DB Cornell Perry and RB LeQuint Allen as SU’s commits so far in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Welcome to Syracuse, Belizaire! Fans, take a look at his tape below:
