The Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team (15-8) advanced to the Round of 32 after winning its First Round matchup over South Dakota State on Sunday. The eighth-seeded Orange will now face No. 1-ranked UConn (25-1) on Sunday for the opportunity to go to the Sweet Sixteen.

The game will tip-off at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. The contest will be played at the AlamoDome in San Antonio, Texas.

Syracuse advanced Sunday after defeating the No. 9-seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the Round of 64, 72-55. All five Orange starters scored in double-figures in the win. Emily Engstler led the team with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Digna Strautmane also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kiara Lewis (14 points), Kamilla Cardoso (12), and Tiana Mangakahia (11) also contributed double-figure scoring.

No. 1-seed UConn dominated No. 16-seed High Point in the Round of 64, 102-59. Freshman standout Paige Bueckers led the Huskies with 24 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in the win.

Here is my preview of UConn in the ‘River Walk Region Preview’:

UConn needs no introduction. The Huskies are competing in their 32nd-straight NCAA Tournament and have advanced to the Final Four in the last 12 years. UConn has won 11 National Championships, including four in a row from 2013-2016. Their 2016 Title, which is the team’s most recent win, was an 82-51 victory over Syracuse.

UConn leads the all-time series versus Syracuse, 39-12. The last time the Huskies and the Orange met was in 2017, where UConn defeated ‘Cuse 94-64 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
