The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team earned an 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament in the Midwest Region. The Orange will square off against the No. 6 seed San Diego State Aztecs in the First Round.
The Orange made a late season push, finishing the season winning three of its last four games, all of the quadrant two variety. Syracuse was knocked out of the ACC Tournament by Virginia on a game-winning three. The day after, Virginia bowed out due to a positive Covid-19 test. On Friday, Syracuse Athletic Director John Wildhack announced that no positive tests emerged for Syracuse and that no players would have to enter quarantine.
Syracuse finished 16-9 overall on the season and finished No. 40 in the NET rankings. The Orange were just 1-7 in quadrant one games, but a 6-1 record in both quadrant two and quadrant three.
The last time the Orange were an 11-seed, it made the Sweet 16 from the First Four. Jim Boeheim has been every seed No. 1 thorough No. 11 except a No. 9 seed. Boeheim will make his 35th appearance in the NCAA Tournament as head coach of Syracuse.
The Orange have now made three straight NCAA Tournaments appearances (sans 2020, of course).
