Syracuse football: LB Lee Kpogba suspended indefinitely from program

A key defensive piece will be unavailable for the foreseeable future

Unfortunate news from the Syracuse Orange football program broke this morning as the Orange won’t have a key linebacker at their disposal for now. Linebacker Lee Kpogba has been suspended indefinitely from the program, per a release from Syracuse Athletics.

The release did not specify a reason for the suspension. Whatever the case may be, Kpogba has played a crucial depth role for Syracuse. The former four-star recruit hasn’t started a game for the Orange yet but appeared in every game as a backup linebacker in 2020. Kpogba had 43 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack last season and made some big hits against opponents.

The sophomore linebacker is a big depth piece for a Syracuse defense that wants its players to fly around and be fast on the field. He’s been critical in providing stops on defense and relief for the starters. The linebacker group is still relatively young, so available players are very useful for Syracuse, especially ones that can impact a game like Kpogba.

While Kpogba isn’t a starter, his influence on the field has been important and any time he’ll miss is unfortunate.
