It’s about that time of year for football recruiting to pick up once again. The Syracuse Orange has pretty much everyone from their 2021 class officially signed, save for one commit and some potential transfers. That means it’s all eyes towards 2022 now for the Orange, and Dino Babers has his first recruit. Defensive back Cornell Perry becomes the first member of Syracuse’s 2022 recruiting class.

Perry is a three-star rated athlete on 247sports. While he has experience all over the field on the offensive side of the ball, he’s most likely coming to Syracuse as a safety. The 6-foot-1, 175 pound defender recently clocked a 4.4 40-yard dash time at a national camp.
Perry hails from Flat Rock, Mich. and attends Woodhaven High School. Linebacker Austin Roon was the only Michigan commit from Syracuse’s 2021 recruiting class. Perry will join a secondary that looks to replenish after the departure of Andre Cisco, Trill Williams, and Ifeatu Melifonwu to the NFL Draft.
While Perry did draw some interest from other notable schools, Syracuse was the only Power Five program to submit an offer so far. He also holds offers from Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, and Toledo.
Compared to last year, Perry’s commitment comes rather early in the recruiting cycle. Terry Lockett was the first player in the 2021 recruiting class to commit on March 22. Perry’s commitment to the Orange comes over a month earlier.
