Syracuse vs. Boston College: TNIAAM Predictions & Poll

Alright, let’s get this over with.

NCAA Basketball: Syracuse at Boston College Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to another weekend of Syracuse Orange men’s basketball! Last weekend didn’t go too well, so hopefully this one is much better as Syracuse faces off with the last-place Boston College Eagles. Last time out, the Orange won by 38 and we’d very much like to see that result again.

Before the game tips off on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET from the Dome Stadium (and on ACC Network), we make our picks for what’s going to happen.

Syracuse has to continue winning to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive. It’s almost March and the Orange aren’t guaranteed to play in the tournament if they start going on a losing skid again. They also need to look forward to gaining momentum and better team chemistry if they want to enter the tournament with a chance. With that being said, this will be a big game against Boston College and I expect Syracuse to come out with intensity.

On paper, this shouldn’t be close. Boston College hasn’t improved that much since the last time these two teams played and you figure that the Orange should have some momentum grabbing a road win in the ACC. However, if Syracuse starts slow, it could be a single-digit game for far longer than anyone is comfortable for. The Orange should eventually pull away, but given how inconsistent Syracuse’s offense is, I was very close to predicting a single-digit win for SU. Don’t be surprised if it does happen.

Syracuse played their best offensive game of the season in the previous meeting and while I don’t expect another 100-point outburst the Orange should be able to get inside and make plays. BC’s got some decent shooters so Syracuse needs to extend out and look to cut off those easy looks. This game should be one where Quincy Guerrier is featured early and often and maybe we’ll get some Jon Bol Ajak minutes.

This game is kind of a must-not-lose situation for Syracuse given the Orange have no bad losses on its résumé. I think they’ll cruise though as the first meeting wasn’t close and Boston College hasn’t been competitive with anyone in the ACC outside of its fellow basement dwellers and Duke. Wait, that’s right. Duke is a basement dweller this year. Anyway, Syracuse wins by a landslide.

John

Syracuse 80, Boston College 69

Not the same blowout we saw last time, but that’s a tough standard to match. As long as Syracuse keeps driving the lane and avoids relying too heavily on threes, they’ll be alright here. Expect some weirdness at some point in the second half, before the Orange pour it on and put enough distance between them and the Eagles to let us all breathe easier.

Now it’s your turn...
