After a weather delay the Syracuse Orange field hockey squad rolled past the Duke Blue Devils 5-1 to advance in the 2021 ACC Championship. Home field treated the Orange well yesterday as a goal from SJ Quigley in the first minute put Syracuse ahead to stay.

After goals from Willemijn Boogert and Hailey Bitters Syracuse took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. The Blue Devils cut the lead to 3-1 but Eefke van den Nieuwenho restored the 3-goal lead before halftime. She added one more goal in the third quarter for the final score. Brooke Borzymowski got the win in goal allowing one goal and making three saves.

Syracuse will face the defending NCAA Champion UNC Tar Heels and the ACC’s leading scorer Erin Matson today at 3:30. The Orange beat the Tar Heels 5-0 in their previous meeting this season but this game should feature a lot of offense. In the other semifinal Louisville will play Virginia with the championship game on Sunday.
