Each week, we’ll take a look at what other college football media sites are saying about the Syracuse Orange. The Orange dropped a tough one on the road and shorted out the momentum that had been building, but let’s see what the rankings have to say this week...
In this week’s SP+ rankings Syracuse moves up six places to the 64th spot with the offense 81st while the defense ranks 38th. The Orange are ranked between Florida State and Houston. This week’s opponent the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 52nd this week with their offense 35th and defense at a nice 69th.
The Football Power Index has Syracuse up three spots to 75th between Army and Missouri. Wake Forest is 33rd in this week’s FPI.
Syracuse slides one spot to 11th in the local paper’s weekly ACC Power Rankings. The Orange are in between Virginia and Duke. Wake is at the top this week.
The four teams at the bottom are all similar in that their running backs have flashed at times, but they seem to lack the passing/pass blocking necessary to play from behind or have a ton of explosion on offense.
Syracuse’s offense, which ranks last in the ACC in passing yards, might be the worst of the bunch in that category. Losing Taj Harris isn’t going to help. But given the run-centric approach, getting punter James Williams back is probably more important.
In the CBS Sports power rankings Syracuse falls eleven spots to 77th between East Carolina and San Jose St. CBS has Wake ranked 18th this week.
The Orange drop six spots to 71st in The Athletic’s Top 130 Power Rankings placing them in between Purdue and Wyoming this week. Wake is 16th in this power ranking.
