As usual, the women will be facing a very challenging schedule this year, with 10 of their scheduled 15 contests against teams in the preseason IL Top 20 that was released yesterday.
Among the highlights of the season, which gets underway on February 20 at the No. 5 Loyola Greyhounds, is a February 27 rematch date with No. 6 ranked Stony Brook. The Seawolves were the only team to defeat the Orange ladies last year.
The Orange open ACC play on March 6 on the road against the Duke Blue Devils, and on April 3 they travel back down to North Carolina to face the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels.
The schedule is evenly split on the home and road front, with eight on the road and seven inside the Dome.
The Orange also appear to be adopting a popular scheduling tactic for many collegiate sports in the pandemic-era, that being playing back-to-back games against the same opponent in the same venue to reduce travel risks.
Syracuse has two-game series lined up against the No. 2 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home, the Louisville Cardinals on the road, and the No. 13 ranked Boston College Eagles on the road.
One part of the schedule not impacted by the pandemic is the ACC tournament, which will take place under its usual format in late April and early May. The quarterfinals are set for April 28, the semifinals for April 30, and the finals for May 2.
‘Cuse is coming off a very successful shortened 2020 in which they went 7-1 and finished the season ranked No. 4 in the polls, and the even better news is they return all but one starter from that squad.
Expectations are sky high for SU this year, and now we’ve got a schedule. So let’s get this thing started and Let’s Go Orange!
