Despite the challenges that the Syracuse Orange football team has been up against during this cycle, Dino Babers and his staff have still managed to put together a solid class. That group got yet another boost on Sunday too, and it’s the biggest one yet. Four-star cornerback Darian “Duce” Chestnut announced he’s committing to Syracuse.

Chestnut is 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. He’s from Camden, N.J. and plays at Camden High School. The 247 composite rankings have him as a four-star prospect and the 325th-best player in the class of 2021 (23rd-best corner). On 247Sports’ own rankings, he’s a three-star player and same goes for ESPN. However, Rivals has him as a four-star player and 137th overall (plus the ninth-best cornerback in the class).
Syracuse beat out the likes of Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Rutgers and more for his services. Well before committing, he told Cuse Nation that SU’s family atmosphere and the current success of players like Trill Williams and Andre Cisco as reasons he liked the Orange. Nick Monroe and Chip West led the charge on the recruiting front.
Chestnut is now the highest-rated addition yet for Syracuse in this class, which is now 16 players deep. Duce is the ninth defensive player added, and the second defensive back, joining safety Malcolm Folk.
