Name: Jarveon Howard
Position: Running Back
Year: Junior
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 214
Hometown: Columbia, Miss.
High School: East Marion
2019 stats: Howard became a far more regular member of the running back core, appearing in 11 games in the season, racking up 337 yards and scoring 3 times. He showed off some impressive explosiveness, especially later in the season.
2020 projections: Howard is one of three running backs ( along with Abdul Adams & Jawhar Jordan) who could seriously be considered for the starting role. Howard has a similar profile to Adams, but that doesn’t mean he’s No. 2 behind the former transfer. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry, and if that’s something that can be repeated, he’s the starter by end of season. I love Howard’s violent running style, especially later in games.
How’d he get here?: You would think that Howard got SEC offers, and you would be right! Tennessee and Mississippi State offered him, but Syracuse won him over.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all day, every day.
Money quote: How the hell hasn’t this nickname caught on?!
“Coach cookout, that’s what I call him,” Howard said. “He always has cookout clothes on. He looks like he’s going to throw a cookout.”

Interesting nugget o’interest: He shares a hometown with none other than the late, great Walter Payton. Not bad company to keep at all.
What movie would Dino recommend for him?: If he’s gonna call Dino Babers “Coach Cookout,” he should watch The Cookout.
Let’s get a look at ya: Here are Howard’s biggest plays from 2018, put together by the ACC Network.
