Ladies and gentlemen, after a long sports hiatus, we finally get our first taste of Syracuse Orange men’s basketball in almost 118 full days. For the first time since Syracuse beat North Carolina back on March 11, we’ll have some semblance of Syracuse basketball as Boeheim’s Army is set to compete in The Basketball Tournament.
The former Syracuse guys will tip off momentarily against Men of Mackey, a group comprised mostly of Purdue alumni. ESPN will broadcast the game from Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Boeheim’s Army is a 5.5 point favorite while the over/under is set at 153.5, according to Bovoda.
Boehiem’s Army picked up the No. 3 seed in this year’s condensed version of TBT. Men of Mackey, the No. 19 seed, beat No. 14 seed Heartfire in the round of 24. Men of Mackey trailed going into the Elam Ending, but put together a late 12-0 run to emerge as the winner. Justin Dentmon, a former University of Washington guard, scored 33 points in the game while Isaac Haas had a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
While Tyler Lydon and Chris McCullough won’t be participating, the Army picked up former Colgate star Will Rayman to join Eric Devendorf, Brandon Triche, John Gillon, Malachi Richardson, Andrew White, Demetris Nichols and Donte Greene. Ryan Blackwell is coaching Boeheim’s Army.
For those of you familiar with how the game threads work, we welcome you back. For the uninitiated, feel free to join in on the discussion in the comment section below as the game goes on. Cheers.
