The recent quarterback recruiting woes of the Syracuse Orange have been well-documented, but now those are on the backburner — for this class, at least . Quarterback Justin Lamson announced his commitment to Syracuse on Friday as he becomes the 14th player to verbally pledge to SU’s class of 2021.

Lamson is rated three stars by 247sports and Rivals. The 6-foot-3 quarterback threw for 3,114 yards and accounted for 29 total touchdowns during his junior season at Oak Ridge High School. His performance earned him First-team All-League honors and Sacramento Bee’s All-Metro Player of the Year honors.

Lamson turned down offers from in-state schools Sacramento State and San Jose State as well as D-1 offers from Boise State, New Mexico State, and Wyoming, among others. Perhaps most importantly, he chose Syracuse over ACC foe Louisivlle, so that’s a strong win for the Orange over the Cardinals.

With Lamson’s commitment, Syracuse finally gets an early commitment from a quarterback after a couple years of picking one up late in the recruiting cycle. In fact, Lamson becomes the first quarterback to commit to the Orange this early since Tommy DeVito chose SU in April of 2017. Perhaps the addition of new offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert — who led the charge on Lamson’s recruitment — can turn the tide in securing the commitments that ‘Cuse are looking for.

Syracuse now has six offensive recruits in the class of 2021 with Lamson’s commitment. The El Dorado Hills, Calif. native is also the first player from the Golden State to commit to the Orange in 2021.

Welcome to Syracuse, Justin! Orange fans, rejoice - Dino’s got a quarterback in his latest recruiting class. Take a look at his tape here:
