Get to Know Your Orange Man: #53, DT Kevon Darton

Some upward movement for the redshirt tackle.

NCAA Football: Camping World Bowl-West Virginia vs Syracuse Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Kevon Darton

Position: Defensive tackle

Year: Redshirt freshman

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 287

Hometown: Fitchburg, Mass.

High School: Worcester Academy

2018 stats: Big ole’ redshirt year for the freshman.

2019 projections: Darton was listed on the depth chart as the backup defensive tackle for the spring season. We’ll see where he ends up slotting in, with Chris Elmore and the rest in the mix, but he seems to have worked himself into the discussion behind McKinley Williams as a tackle.

How’d he get here?: Darton took a preferred walk-on offer from the Orange last season. He also had a PWO offer from UMass.

What’d recruiting sites say?: No stars, unfortunately.

Money Quote: Apparently Darton felt very comfortable at Syracuse and literally said as much to Steven Bailey last year when he committed.

“I felt like that I would be very comfortable at Syracuse,” Darton said.

Twitter feed: @KDarton_53

Tweets of wonder: Gotta go with the last non-retweet in the feed. And it’s a good one.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: We’re heading to future-town here, as Dino recommends you check out Free Guy, which is coming out in December with Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi. The film was filmed at least partially in Darton’s native-adjacent Worcester. For those in central Mass, I know Fitchburg isn’t Worcester...

Interesting nugget o’interest: Darton’s old coach Tony Johnson at Worcester Academy stated that he had some of the best hands on the team, in the Bailey article above. Think he’s in the running for another Rhino type two-way job, playing fullback?
