“Get to Know Your Orange Man” returns for the 2020 season! And until we hear that the Syracuse Orange aren’t playing football this year, we’re doing these every Monday through Friday going well into August.
Name: Caleb Okechukwu
Position: Defensive End
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 268lbs
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
High School: St. John’s College
2019 stats: Per the official website, Caleb did not play on the year, while recovering from illness.
2020 projections: He’s currently penciled in behind Drew Tuazama at one of the defensive end positions in the 3-3-5. His body style fits that well, a larger defensive end, as opposed to the hybrid role. He’s a flexible fit that should get a good number of snaps on the year.
How’d he get here?: Offers from Arizona, Arkansas and Tennessee. Texas was also interested informally. Some solid company for the Orange.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Consensus three-star
Money quote: Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com talked to his former coach (and former Syracuse CBA coach) Joe Casamento regarding Caleb back in 2018. He noted the defensive end’s versatility.
“He’s one of those kids who could be 290 (pounds) if they wanted him to play inside or stay outside at 250, 260,” Casamento said.

Tweets of wonder: Sand ladders are really hard. Caleb’s making them look easy.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: While I don’t know if Dino is big on comic movies, I’m tapping our tie-in here and going with X-Men First Class. Caleb Landry Jones plays Banshee in the last reboot of the X-Men film franchise.
Interesting nugget o’interest: Caleb’s brother Josh Okechukwu is a wide receiver at Nassau Community College. Apparently the athletic talent is strong in the family.
Let’s get a look at ya: High school tape, but I’m sure we’ll see more highlights after this season.
