Get to Know Your Orange Man: #76, OL Qadir White

Is this the year the former four-star recruit fulfills his potential?

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Qadir White

Position: Offensive Lineman

Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore

Height: 6’7”

Weight: 343 lbs

Hometown: Bronx, N.Y.

High School: Cardinal Hayes

2019 stats: Did not play after redshirting in 2018.

2020 projections: White should be fighting for a backup spot on the line this year. However, a slight concern is that he wasn’t listed on the spring depth chart before practices stopped. Whether that was due to an injury or other circumstances is unknown. Barring those issues, his name not appearing on the two-deep is concerning given the apparent talent he had coming out of high school.

How’d he get here?: White got offers from ACC foes Boston College and Miami (FL). Syracuse also battled UCONN and the ever-pesky Rutgers for White’s signature.

What’d recruiting sites say?: White was SU’s highest ranked recruit in the class of 2018, getting four stars from 247sports. Rivals and ESPN settled for three stars.

Money quote: Unfortunately, this spring and summer might have been crucial to White’s development at the college level. Coach Dino Babers knows what he’s getting with most high school linemen, and this is their time. Not having the extra practice time could be hampering White’s growth.

“They normally figure it out between (years) two and three,” Babers said.

Tweets of wonder: Strength and conditioning has been a focus for White since he’s been on campus - as mentioned by Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey in this video from last year.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Babers mentioned this movie in his press conference last week and it seems appropriate to recommend “300.” White just needs to focus on keeping the big and scary army away from SU’s running backs.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Do you need proof that White is a strong guy? He also threw shot put in high school. That’s tough.

Let’s get a look at ya: How about a look at his tape from signing day?
