Boeheim’s Army adds John Gillon to TBT roster

John Gillon will join Boeheim’s Army once more

NCAA Basketball: Duke at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Count former Syracuse Orange basketball point guard John Gillon in for The Basketball Tournament (TBT) this summer. Gillon will once again suit up for Boeheim’s Army, according to GM Kevin Belbey. He’ll join a roster with the likes of Eric Devendorf, Tyler Lydon, Demetris Nichols, Malachi Richardson and Brandon Triche. Ryan Blackwell will coach the team.

Gillon has been a mainstay for Boeheim’s Army since graduating from Syracuse. While Gillon only played one season at SU, he had memorable performances in 2016-17, most notably a 43 point effort at NC State and a game-winning shot against Duke. He’s been an important piece for the group of former Syracuse players in TBT, helping the team to a win over Team Fancy in 2018 with key plays down the stretch.

Most recently, Gillon played with Pieno Zvaigzdes in Lithuania last season. The two years sandwiched between his Syracuse and overseas career were spent playing in the NBA G-League.

TBT plans to roll out safety guidelines for players as well as an updated tournament structure in June. There has been discussion to host the tournament from one central location as opposed to eight regional locations.

At the time of this writing, the Syracuse regional is scheduled for July 30-August 2 at Onondaga Community College. In a scenario where fans are not permitted to attend games, refunds will be issued to those who already purchased tickets.
