Another day, another commitment for the Syracuse Orange football program. As has become a theme, SU’s added yet another defender for the class of 2021 — this time, it’s linebacker Austin Roon.

Roon is a three-star linebacker from Byron Center, Mich. and is now the top-rated commitment for Syracuse in this cycle. At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, he had offers from Arizona State, Western Michigan, Buffalo, Toledo and more MAC schools, plus Army and Air Force.
SU’s been emphasizing defense quite a bit for 2021, and Roon becomes the seventh defender commitment for the Orange. After Juan Wallace’s departure last week, linebacker is a position of need, to some extent. Roon — who’s be one of the bigger players at the position based on the current roster — would certainly seem to help that along with Malik Matthew’s recent add.
With 10 commits now, Syracuse’s class is coming together nicely. Roon is the first commit from Michigan in 2021, and third Midwest add along with Landon Morris (Illinois) and Hayden Nelson (Wisconsin).
