Syracuse football recruiting: 3-star TE Landon Morris commits to Orange

MOAR COMMITMENTS.

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a week since the last Syracuse Orange football commit for the class of 2021 — which is a bit of a drought by recent standards. Luckily, that ended on Tuesday with the announcement that tight end Landon Morris committed.

As Mike McAllister notes over on CuseNation, Morris will be a tight end for Syracuse — though he plays wide receiver in high school. Standing at 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, the La Grange Park, Ill. product is an impressive target already. You may recall SU’s most recent player from La Grange Park: “The Officer” Zack Mahoney.

According to 247Sports, he’s a three-star prospect and a top-40 player in Illinois for 2021. His most notable offers include Michigan, Boston College, Iowa State, UCF and Toledo... so not a bad list. Mike Lynch was Morris’s primary recruiter for Syracuse.

So Morris makes it five additions to the 2021 class in the last two weeks, and just the third offensive player, joining wide receiver Kendall Long and running back Josh Hough. He’s also the first Illinois player in this class, and the second Midwest commit, along with Wisconsin DE Hayden Nelson. SU’s seemingly stockpiling big tight ends lately — which should help the run game, which sorely needed a boost following last year’s struggles.

You can check out more of his highlights below if you didn’t see enough above. Welcome aboard, Landon!
