Malachi Richardson will play with Boeheim’s Army in The Basketball Tournament this summer according to general manager Kevin Belbey. Along with his former Syracuse Orange basketball teammate Tyler Lydon, this will be Richardson’s inaugural year competing in TBT. Eric Devendorf will also play with Boeheim’s Army this summer.

In his lone season at Syracuse, Richardson helped the Orange to the 2016 Final Four as the team’s second leading scorer. He left Syracuse and was selected with the No. 22 pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft.

Richardson spent two seasons with the Sacramento Kings before being traded to the Toronto Raptors in February 2018. He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in February 2019 and waived.

Richardson began last season playing in Israel, but switched teams in December by signing with Vanoli Cremona in Italy. He suffered a broken right hand in January and was subsequently released by the team in February.

At the time of this writing, TBT has not made plans to cancel or postpone this summer’s tournament due to COVID-19. The Syracuse regional is scheduled for the weekend of July 31-August 2.
