The 2020 S.O.B. (Syracuse Orange basketball) Awards continue as we move on from most surprising player to best game of the season.

We’ve previously covered the voting for best player and best walk-on, so today we turn the page and begin the voting process to find the best game of the season.

Here are this year’s candidates:

Syracuse 97, Bucknell 46: In an early season non-conference game, the Syracuse offense exploded as Elijah Hughes and Buddy Boeheim both poured in 20+ points while Joe Girard and Jesse Edwards scored in double-figures. It was the largest margin of victory for Syracuse on the season and the high-water mark for points (97) scored in a game, something SU did twice in 2019-20. More on that below.

Syracuse 97, Georgia Tech 63: In desperate need of a win, Syracuse traveled down to Atlanta in December for the second of two early and unconventional ACC games. On the heels of a home drubbing to Iowa, the Orange were 4-4 heading into the matchup with Georgia Tech and SU was already 0-1 in the ACC. Syracuse rose to the challenge as Elijah Hughes hit four 3s right after the tip and Buddy Boeheim caught fire in the second. Georgia Tech never seriously threatened.

Notre Dame 88, Syracuse 87: The lone loss on this list. It was one of the more entertaining games to watch in front of a big Carrier Dome crowd on a Saturday afternoon. Tensions flared between Notre Dame’s Prentiss Hubb and Joe Girard when Hubb stepped over Girard. Then, Girard answered the bell. He caught fire for a stretch and hit a three at the buzzer after a controversial no foul call and Syracuse came up short, but it was one of the more entertaining Syracuse games of the season.

Syracuse 63, Virginia 55 (OT): Syracuse headed down to Charlottesville after dropping two straight games. In a defensive battle, Syracuse survived a last second three by Kihei Clark to force overtime. In the extra period, Buddy Boeheim and Joe Girard shot lights out from three and buried Virginia. It was the first ranked win for Syracuse since the Louisville win in 2019 and the only win over a ranked opponent in 2019-20. The win sparked a five-game winning streak for SU.

Syracuse 81, North Carolina 53: After getting blown out in the Carrier Dome just two weeks prior, Syracuse had a shot at redemption against North Carolina in the ACC Tournament. Coming off what amounted to essentially a home game in Greensboro the previous night, North Carolina came into this matchup hot. But Syracuse came out firing on all cylinders right out of the gate and never looked back. Syracuse ended its nine-game losing streak to UNC in what would be its final game of the season.
