On Tuesday morning, the Syracuse Orange football team received a verbal commitment from Newton Square, Pa. safety Malcolm Folk. The pledge makes Folk, who is a three-star who plays at Episcopal Academy, SU’s second player in the class of 2021 — joining defensive lineman Terry Lockett.

Thank you to the entire Syracuse coaching staff for this opportunity #OITNF pic.twitter.com/AzDNcuAnRa
Folk is 6-foot-1 and 191 pounds, and is rated as a top-100 safety in the class and a top-40 prospect in Pennsylvania (per 247Sports). Mike Lynch was the primary recruiter for Folk, with some help from Nick Monroe. Folk also received offers from the likes of Northwestern, Army, Toledo, Central Michigan and Bowling Green (among others), with interest from Boston College and Temple as well.
While Syracuse has added quite a few defensive backs since Dino Babers’s arrival, there’s always room for more talent in the secondary and SU seems likely to lose at least a player or two following the 2020 season — most notably All-American candidate Andre Cisco, who seems to be a likely draftee in 2021. Devon Clarke and Allen Stritzinger are also poised to graduate.
Welcome aboard, Malcolm! You can check out his highlights below.
