The first round of voting is in. When we were crafting the field for the Nunes Civil War, there were a few seeds we could see being upset targets. Those weren’t the ones that we actually saw upsets in.
Ditko Region:
In the Ditko Region, we saw Loki pull off the upset in the 8/9 matchup over Black Bolt, likely riding his movie stardom into a matchup with the Webslinger in the Second Round. We also saw the Wasp pull off the No. 11 over the No. 6, Shadowcat, in the first round, probably for similar reasons.

Claremont Region:
In the Claremont region, we were able to see an upset in No. 9 Remy LeBeau knocking off No. 8 Sue Storm that I didn’t expect to see. The first lady of the Four wasn’t on my radar to go out, but Gambit has always been a fan favorite. The rest of the region held serve and we’ll see where it pans out. I’m especially looking forward to Barton vs. Daredevil.

Kirby Region:
It seems a recurring theme that No. 9 over No. 8 is happening all over the board. This was easily the most surprising of them though, as Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic himself, is now out, to Rogue. I was expecting Reed vs. Cap’ to be the highlight of this round, with Cap getting a run for his money. Instead, Rogue moves on to take on the bracket’s top seed. Professor X also knocked out his long-time friend Hank McCoy in the dreaded No. 5/No. 12 matchup. He know has to take on another long time X-Man in Cyclops/Scott Summers. Top it off with a Thanos vs. Black Panther matchup and you’ve got a bracket from hell over here.

Lee Region:
To continue the Summers family win streak, No. 12 Cable took down No. 5 She-Hulk, proving NCAA Tournament history of that matchup being harrowing carries over to this format as well. Otherwise, the region was chalk. This region is setting up one impressive matchup in the No. 1/No. 8, pitting Thor against the Venom symbiote, who may give him a run for his money.
