At this point, you may or may not have realized that there’s a good number of us in the masthead over here that meld our passion for the Syracuse Orange with a passion for some pop culture and comics. As a result of that blend, we bring to you the latest bracket, the TNIAAM Marvel Civil War.
To determine the best Marvel Comics character, we’ve broken the field into four regions, as you can imagine. In this case, we opted for the Lee, Kirby, Ditko and Claremont Regions, each of which named for Marvel royalty.
- Jack Kirby, the mastermind and creator of many popular teams, such as Fantastic Four, X-Men, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man.
- Stan Lee, long time creator and pioneer with various co-writers (also the face of Marvel for quite a while and the nice man who had a cameo in all of the MCU films)
- Steve Ditko, who we wouldn’t have our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man without.
- Chris Claremont, my personal pick, who took the X-Men and turned them into the global force they are today over his seventeen years at the helm.
Unfortunately for John Romita, John Byrna, Mark Millar or modern additions like Bendis or Hickman, I’m an X-Men addict from being a child of the 90s, so Claremont takes his place at the podium here. So without further ado, the bracket:
This is where the staff ended up after long and hard deliberations. Some classics ended up on the outskirts, including Nova, Beta Ray Bill, Psylocke / Betsy Braddock and Ghost-Spider/Gwen Stacy. Overall tough to cut that bottom end of the bracket. As a note, this is geared toward the actual comics, not necessarily the movies. But pick as you wish.
