Where to Watch: YES Network (RSN)

UL Blog: Card Chronicle

Current Record: 12-7, Louisville

Last Meeting: Syracuse stunned the Cardinals in the Dome 59-51 in Syracuse’s first top 5 win ever in the Carrier Dome. Since this game, UL has not lost.

Head Coaches: Syracuse - Quentin Hillsman (14th season, 304-157 at SU). Louisville - Jeff Walz (seventh season, 359-102 at UL)

Coach Bio: Jeff Walz looks to be the next big head coach in women’s basketball, as he has turned the University of Louisville into a basketball powerhouse. He played his college ball at Western Kentucky and graduated in 1995. In 1996, he became an assistant coach at his alma mater where he also coached his sister. In 1997, he took an assistant coaching job at Nebraska until 2001 when he took another assistant coaching job at Minnesota. In 2002, he took his last assistant coaching job at Maryland which lasted until 2007. In 2006, he was apart of a National Championship Terrapin team. At the end of the 2007 basketball season, Louisville named Jeff Walz head coach of the women’s basketball team. He has made the NCAA tournament every year except for one, and in the 2017-2018 season, he took the Cardinals to the Final Four.

Last Year: Last season the Cardinals finished 32-4 and lost in the Elite 8 to UConn.

Last Game: On senior night at the Yum! Center, Louisville burned Virginia Tech 70-53.

“Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: Dana Evans won ACC Player of the Year this past week, and she deserved every bit of that honor. She is averaging 17.9 ppg and only scored single digits once this year, which just so happened to be against Syracuse way back in December. For whatever reason, Syracuse gives this team problems, most likely attributed to the shot blocking presence the Orange represent down low. Evans is a top caliber player, and her third time seeing the Orange could mean trouble for the Syracuse defense.

If Syracuse Wins: Alright hold the phone. Let’s win this thing. Syracuse just beat Louisville for the second time in a row and accounted for half of the Cardinals’ losses on the season. If the ‘Cuse win today, they may be the favorite going into the semi finals.

If Syracuse loses: The WNIT in a year like this is acceptable for a program that is now consistently good, so down years are expected every once in a while. A tough pill to swallow, but a lot of positives on the year when you take a deeper look.
