Create your best Syracuse co-ed dodgeball team of athletes from the last decade

We’re limiting it to athletes from 2010-20

Welcome to TNIAAM: The Otto, where we bring you the best of unkown Syracuse Orange sports to help fill that void in your daily lives!

Today we’ll be diving into a topic which came up in a mailbag column from Andy Staples at The Athletic. Andy was asked which current college football players would he pick to form a dodgeball team and he made one wise decision going with Syracuse defensive back Andre Cisco

“LSU cornerback Derrick Stingley Jr. (six interceptions last year, incredible body control) obviously belongs on this squad. Syracuse junior safety Andre Cisco (the active FBS leader in career interceptions with 12) also deserves a spot. Rounding out the team is Oklahoma State’s Kolby Harvell-Peel, a 2019 first-team All-Big 12 selection who intercepted five passes and broke up 13 more. He’ll have to cut down on the PBUs, though. In dodgeball, that just means you’re out.”

So we decided to make an All-Syracuse team. But in order to limit the options and increase the difficulty we’re going to institute a few rules:

  • The athletes must have competed for Syracuse between 2010 and 2020.
  • You can only pick one athlete per sport.
  • Using International Dodgeball Association rules, each team will comprise six players and a minimum of two women.
  • For anyone thinking they’ll pick a team of lacrosse goalies - Players are not allowed to play with gloves or sports equipment, bare hands only.

Now let’s meet the TNIAAM squad:

  • Jenna Caira, Softball

Syracuse’s all-time leader in a host of pitching categories. Jenna recorded over 1,000 strikeouts and her pitch variety is going to be lethal on the court.

  • Andre Cisco, Football

No reason to over-think this one and we’ll have Cisco serve as Caira’s blocker and trust he’ll catch anything headed her way.

  • Alex Bono, Men’s Soccer

We’re going to trust the 2014 ACC Defensive Player of the Year’s hands here and as a goalie he should be able to heave the ball into the opposite corners.

  • Tyler Roberson, Men’s Basketball

“If you can successfully dunk this, you can dodge a ball”- Patches O’Houlihan

  • Santita Ebangwese, Volleyball/Women’s Soccer

An All-American in volleyball who then joined the Orange women’s soccer team as a graduate student and played goalie/forward. Oh and she’s completing a Master’s Degree in BioMedical Engineering. Yeah, we’ll take that combination of intelligence and athleticism on our squad.

  • Kayla Treanor, Women’s Lacrosse

The four-time All-American and three-time ACC Attacker of the Year hold Syracuse records for goals and draw controls in a season. The name of the game in dodgeball is getting the ball and then scoring so we’ll trust Kayla with the final spot on our squad.
