Another week, another win. This time, not on the field. The Syracuse Orange men’s lacrosse Team is now the new number No. 1-ranked team in the country, according to both the Maverik Media Poll and USILA Coaches Poll. SU was moved up two spots in both rankings, supplanting Yale, which fell 13-10 to UMass over the weekend.
The Syracuse Orange have outscored opponents by 7.5 goals per game and are one of only five undefeated teams left in Division I Lacrosse — joined by Princeton, North Carolina, Cornell and (gross) Georgetown. Although the season is just four weeks in, Syracuse looks like National Championship contenders with elite talent at all positions.
As SU notes, the Orange have been ranked No. 1 in the USILA poll more than 20% of the time since it debuted in 1973. It’s the first time they’ve been No. 1 since 2017.
Head Coach John Desko has to be proud of his team as they prepare for a three-game road trip with contests against Johns Hopkins, Rutgers and Duke. Of those squads, only Duke (4-2) is currently ranked.
