National Signing Day 2020: Safety Jahad Carter signs with Syracuse

SU wasn’t done with the late additions, adding another DB for 2020.

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

While many of the Syracuse Orange recruits for the 2020 season signed back in December, during the early signing period, the remainder will be inking today on National Signing Day! Each of these athletes will be helping the Orange in their quest to return to the postseason this coming season. As each player signs, we’ll be posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Here, get to know a late addition to this year’s class, Jahad Carter.

Hometown: Richmond, Va.

High School: Jireh Prep (N.C.)

Position: Safety

Commitment date: Today!

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 185 lbs.

Ratings: Rivals said two stars, while Carter had threes from both ESPN and 247. We prefer the latter services, in this case.

Other offers: This time around? Notably, Texas Tech, FAU and Marshall. Though he was going to wind up with Virginia Tech a year ago before he had to head to Jireh.

Dino’s predicted nickname: “Coach” - for Coach Carter, the 2005 drama starring Samuel L. Jackson. The real-life Coach Carter was in Richmond, though out here in California, rather than Jahad’s home in Virginia. Still, enough similarities to make it work.

Player outlook: Carter enters a pretty crowded safety depth chart, but if he had enough talent for Virginia Tech a year ago, you have to think enough talent to potentially work his way up SU’s chart over time. Maybe we see more of him on the field in a year. He already seems to have the sort of size required for the system.
