Recruiting season is back! College football’s early signing period begins today for the class of 2021, and the Syracuse Orange are adding new recruits starting Wednesday (through maybe Friday). As each player signs on the dotted line, we’re posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Next up is Terry Lockett, the first commit of the 2021 cycle.
Twitter feed: @terrylockett7
Hometown: Springfield, MA
Previous School: Springfield Central
Stats: 6’1”, 255 lbs.
Commitment date: March 22, 2020
Position: Defensive Tackle
Ratings: 3 Stars all the way around.
Other Offers: Lockett got looks from local UMass, Buffalo, but most impressive was Michigan.
Dino’s projected nickname: “Locking it down from Downtown”
Player Breakdown: Lockett has been voted to the all-state team his sophomore and junior seasons, with his team winning the state title each of those years under Lockett’s leadership; The defensive lineman was named a Captain after his freshman season due to his commitment to the weight room. While Springfield Central employed a 4 man front, Locket would move around depending on the opponent, and most coaches think that his agility and intelligence will make him an ideal middle lineman in a 3-3-5 as a gap control/multiple look scheme like Tony White employs. The defensive tackle spot is the weak link along the defensive line right now, and I don’t think Lockett comes in immediately competing for a spot. However, his high motor off the field combined with a more traditional offseason could see him creep up the depth chart by season’s end.
