The Hawaiian islander heads north to join the Orange Ohana.

Syracuse v Maryland

It’s early signing season, which means a new batch of Syracuse Orange athletes are about to head north. Syracuse will add recruits to the program between Wednesday through Friday, but expect most players to sign on Wednesday. As each signing is confirmed, we’ll post profiles here on TNIAAM. Up next is Austyn Kauhi, who decided to come up to the frozen tundra and join the Ohana.

Ratings: Three stars from the places that give stars. He’s listed as the eighth best player our of Hawaii this cycle, according to 247Sports.com.

Other Offers: The offer sheet for Kauhi included his local Hawaii, UCF, Navy SDSU and Nevada, among others.

Dino’s projected nickname: Snowbird. He does the opposite of everyone else and leaves paradise to come to Syracuse in the winter.

Player Breakdown: While the competition on Oahu isn’t that of Texas or one of the big football grounds, Kauhi passes the look test to start the college lineman building process. At 260 pounds, he seems to have grown into his frame a little compared to his junior season highlights and with a redshirt year can only fill out more. His footwork is a bit disjointed, but he has solid upper body technique. The feet can be taught with time and training, especially to someone who shows athletic aptitude, which he does.
