College football’s early signing period begins today for the recruiting class of 2021. As part of that, the Syracuse Orange are adding new recruits starting Wednesday (through maybe Friday). As each player signs their name (and faxes it in, of course), we’re posting profiles here on TNIAAM to introduce all of the new faces. Next up is Derek McDonald, a defensive end/tight end from the Peach State.
Twitter feed: @derekmcd21
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Previous School: The Marist School
Stats: 6’4”, 230 lbs.
Commitment date: May 5, 2020
Position: Tight End/Defensive End
Ratings: 3 starts from everyone
Other Offers: McDonald’s offer list might not impress football analysts but guidance counselors would love seeing Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn and Dartmouth offers.
Dino’s projected nickname: “When it comes to this recruit I’m lovin’ it”
Player Breakdown: McDonald would appear to be a developmental project but one with a high intellect based on those Ivy League offers. His versatility could be an asset for the Orange in the future. Based on roster projections he might see the field quicker on defense as his athleticism could be used in pass-rushing situations.
