College football’s early signing period begins today for the recruiting class of 2021. As part of that, the Syracuse Orange are adding new recruits starting Wednesday (through maybe Friday). As each player signs their name (and faxes it in, of course), we’re posting profiles here on TNIAAM to introduce all of the new faces. Next up is Jatius Geer, another South Carolina addition to the class.
Twitter feed: @Jatius1
Hometown: Honea Path
Previous School: Belton-Honea Path
Stats: 6’5”, 240 lbs.
Commitment date: July 2, 2020
Position: Defensive end
Ratings: Everyone decided on three stars. It was for the best.
Other Offers: SU was one of several P5 offers for Geer, along with Georgia Tech and Kansas State. Memphis, Coastal Carolina, Memphis, Temple and UCF (among others).
Dino’s projected nickname: “Jatius is a Metal Geer who’s Solid.”
Player Breakdown: Geer’s film shows a quick pass rusher and decisive tackler when getting to opposing passers. He has a variety of moves to get him through the line both inside and outside of blockers, and shows an aggressive ability to swiftly wrap guys up. As a run-stopper, he displays good instincts in a four-man front on how to make stops behind the line without over-pursuing. One place where SU needs to recruit differently is on the line given the 3-3-5. At least some of Geer’s game signals that change in philosophy (even if he is primarily a pass-rusher).
