College football’s early signing period begins today for the recruiting class of 2021. As part of that, the Syracuse Orange are adding new recruits starting Wednesday (through maybe Friday). As each player signs their name (and faxes it in, of course), we’re posting profiles here on TNIAAM to introduce all of the new faces. Next up is Kendall Long, a wide receiver addition from the Palmetto State.
Twitter feed: @Kendall_Long02
Hometown: Lexington, S.C.
Previous School: River Bluff
Stats: 6’3”, 215 lbs.
Commitment date: May 5, 2020
Position: Wide receiver
Ratings: ESPN and 247 Sports had the most sense, by giving him three stars. Rivals thought otherwise and decided on two. Boooooo.
Other Offers: Syracuse was in early with Long, and his most notable offers included Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
Dino’s projected nickname: “This South Carolina wideout always goes Long!”
Player Breakdown: Syracuse didn’t have much in the way of big pass-catching targets this year, but Long would certainly qualify as that. He’s not overly fast, but he can operate both outside or in the slot, and has enough of a burst to create separation after making the initial grab. Long’s tape also shows an ability to go up and get balls while covered. The fact that he’s versatile in terms of the types of routes he can run effectively could make him an interesting player to plug in all over in a four-receiver set.
