Early signing period: 2021 S Malcolm Folk signs with Syracuse

Syracuse adds to its already impressive defensive backfield

Virginia Tech v Syracuse

Recruiting season is back! College football’s early signing period begins today for the class of 2021, and the Syracuse Orange are adding new recruits starting Wednesday (through maybe Friday). As each player signs on the dotted line, we’re posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Next up is Malcolm Folk, who’s looking to be the latest play-making defensive back for the Orange.

Hometown: Newton Square, Pa.

Previous School: Episcopal Academy

Stats: 6’1”, 191 lbs.

Commitment date: April 14, 2020

Position: Safety

Ratings: Three stars all around from ESPN, Rivals and 247. He was rated among the top 100 safeties in the country.

Other Offers: Malcolm possessed offers from schools like Northwestern, Army, Buffalo, Kent State, Toledo and Rice, among various others.

Dino’s projected nickname: “This Malcolm will be in the middle of every play”

Player Breakdown: Folk’s one of many players in this year’s class to play on both sides of the ball in high school. Along with time at strong safety, he also saw plenty of snaps at running back and regularly lined up in the slot as well. He shows off some good hands and great tackling ability while being a strong downhill runner. A lot of his activity on defense has him run-stopping, which could be a solid fit for the variety of roles Syracuse can use safeties in this 3-3-5 scheme.
