Syracuse Orange football defensive back Cam Jonas will enter the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports’ Stephen Bailey.
As a redshirt sophomore this past season, Jonas had five tackles in four games, including a sack vs. Duke. However, he didn’t play after Syracuse’s loss to Liberty. With freshmen getting a lot more run even after both Andre Cisco and Trill Williams were lost for the year, it would seem that he’s looking to make a move for more playing time elsewhere.
Jonas is one of four scholarship players on the move now for Syracuse already. On Monday, various outlets reported that TE Aaron Hackett, RB Markenzy Pierre and DE Jason Muñoz were all entering the transfer portal. So far, seniors Josh Black and Airon Servais have also announced that they’ll be returning to the Orange for another year given the additional eligibility allowed by the NCAA this year.
With the moves so far this week, SU is down to 74 scholarship players by my count, with additional room to bring in more players above the usual 85. The number of returning scholarship players is also likely to dip more, as Syracuse waits on decisions from nine other senior players (plus any additional players who opt to transfer).
Good luck to Cam and all of the transferring players at their eventual new landing spots.
