Syracuse is well known for being Canada’s College Team (TM), and that’s not limited to football and basketball. The men’s soccer team has produced some notable Canadian alumni, and the latest Ian McIntyre protégé is no different. Tajon Buchanan was named the 2020 Canadian Male Youth International Player of the Year.

Buchanan has played a pivotal role in bringing the New England Revolution to the Eastern Conference Finals in this year’s MLS Cup Playoffs. He scored a goal in the first round against Supporters Shield winners Philadelphia and has been crucial at right back. Buchanan also scored his first two career MLS goals during the 2020 regular season.
The prominent role that Buchanan has played for New England hasn’t gone unnoticed. He was called up to represent Canada in the 2020 Concaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship in March before the tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus.
Buchanan played for Syracuse in 2017 and 2018. He scored 12 goals and recorded six assists in 33 games with the Orange. The Ontario native signed a Generation Adidas contract after his sophomore season to go to the MLS Draft. He was selected ninth overall by New England.
Buchanan and New England are set to play the Columbus Crew on Sunday, December 6. The winner will get a place in the MLS Cup Finals on December 12.
