Syracuse football’s first down offense vs Wake Forest

A big drop from last week

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange offense bottomed out on Saturday against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. For the second week in a row Syracuse came out and got 0 yards on their first play from scrimmage. This suggests that the Orange might want to dial up a sure thing for this Saturday or just run a QB sneak to get something positive (just kidding...kind of) Cooper Lutz provided a spark with his strong game but the inability to throw the ball left the offense spinning out.

Not having Sean Tucker impacts more than the running game as his absence will let a defense focus on shutting down the short passing game. Rex Culpepper failed to deliver some throws early and if you can’t move the ball throwing on first down you’re in for a long day.

JaCobian Morgan actually had more first-down passing yards in his one drive than Culpepper was able to compile on six more first-down attempts. No matter who gets the nod this week against the Boston College Eagles they will need to convert on first down or else the defense will be able to key on the running game.
