Rivalry: 0-0
Current Streak: zero!
First Meeting: It’s hard to have a first meeting when these teams have never met before.
Last Meeting: See above.
Head Coaches: Syracuse - Jim Boeheim (45th year, 1,065-399) | Bryant - Jared Grasso (fourth year, 25-37)
Coach Bio: Grasso played his college basketball in the MAAC at Quinnipiac. Following his playing career, he held brief coaching stints at Hofstra and Hartford before returning to his alma mater for one season. From there, he took an assistant job at Fordham before taking an associate head coaching job at Iona under Tim Cluess for eight years. He took the head coaching job at Bryant in 2018.
Last Year: Bryant finished 15-17 and 7-11 in the NEC. The Bulldogs were reliant on a young team with its freshmen taking home multiple NEC Rookie of the Week honors throughout the 2019-20 season.
Last Game: This will be Bryant’s season opener. The Bulldogs were scheduled to take on Stony Brook Wednesday, but that game was cancelled due to a ref testing positive fo COVID.
“Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: Bryant is chock-full of transfers, but we’ll hedge and go with two transfers: Rutgers transfer Peter Kiss started 12 games for the Scarlet Knights in 2018-19. Look for he and former Wake Forest player Melo Eggleston to get going.
If Syracuse Wins: Solid start to the season in what was expected to be a comfortable win.
If Syracuse Loses: Hoo boy we could be in for a long winter.
Fun Fact: Cherry picking one you probably already knew: Syracuse natives Charles Pride and Luke Sutherland played their high school basketball at Liverpool and West Genesee, respectively.
