Early in September it was announced that the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team would add Chaz Owens, son of former Syracuse great Billy Owens, to its roster. The younger Owens played his high school basketball in Pennsylvania, playing his junior and senior years at the Shipley School before do a post-graduate year at Scotland Campus. His team at the Shipley School was 20-6 his senior year, where he had separate 20 point and 20 rebound games.
Position: Forward
Class: Freshman
Vitals: 6-foot-5, 200 lbs.
Strengths: Owens is a good shooter and an underrated athlete. He can rebound the ball well and finishes around the rim with strength.
Ceiling: Playing time comes few and far between in his freshman season, but Owens plays well in garbage time and shows potential as a shooter. He competes hard in practice and helps his teammates get better.
Floor: Owens doesn’t see the floor but still competes in practice and provides value as a scholarship player.
