We always knew that the Syracuse Orange football team’s game against the N.C. State Wolfpack was going to be a nooner on either ACC Network or your local RSN, yet they still tried to create some suspense around it anyway.
On Sunday, it was made official: Syracuse and NC state will kick off at noon ET on ACC Network, just as the conference bylaws stipulate.
The Orange, as you know, are just 1-8 on the season, and we’re all just hoping for the struggle to be over. NC State, meanwhile, is a surprising 6-3 on the year and knocked off a ranked Liberty team this past Saturday in a 15-14 slugfest. State’s actually been a pretty high-scoring team this year (averaging 31.4 points per game), so don’t necessarily expect the same sort of ugly affair when these teams play at the Carrier Dome.
SU lost the last meeting between these two teams, a dreadful 16-10 game down in Raleigh last season that represents hours of our lives we’ll never get back. Oddly, Syracuse has really struggled with the Wolfpack in the all-time series, going just 2-11 against them — including a 2-5 mark since ‘Cuse joined the conference.
NC State opened as two-touchdown favorites and based on what we watched from the Orange this past week, that line seems likely to climb. A lot could also ride on the status of JaCobian Morgan at quarterback. If he can’t go, it would seem that Rex Culpepper would get the start.
Just two more games and this season’s over...
