With 5:37 remaining in the Syracuse men’s basketball team’s contest against Notre Dame, the Irish’s Prentiss Hubb missed a three-pointer, got his own rebound, and fired an overhead pass to John Mooney for an easy lay-in to put his team up 70-69.
During the pass, Hubb collided into the Orange’s Joe Girard III, sending him falling onto his back. After Mooney scored, Hubb glared down at Girard, still on his back, and put his right foot on the other side of the Syracuse point guard, standing over him while he was getting up. Hubb was issued a technical for taunting, giving Syracuse two free throws and the ball. Girard made both, the first one bringing SU fans Taco Time for the fourth straight game, and then hit a fadeaway jumper over Hubb on the next offensive possession.
Although the Orange eventually lost by one point, the sequence brought viewers an exciting duel between Girard and Hubb in the final minutes.
