Wake Forest Blog: Blogger So Dear

Current Record: 6-1, Syracuse

First Meeting: In their inaugural season in the ACC, Brianna Butler and the Syracuse defense forced 26 turnovers to win 64-54. The win would secure the Orange as a 5-seed in the conference tournament.

Last Meeting: Syracuse beat Wake Forest in a thriller by a score of 77-75 in the Dome. It would be their fourth straight victory over Wake Forest. Miranda Drummond led Syracuse with 17 points.

Head Coaches: Syracuse - Quentin Hillsman (14th season, 297-153 at SU) | Wake Forest - Jennifer Hoover (8th season, 108-129 at WF)

Coach Bio: Jennifer Hoover has bounced around all over the country coaching college basketball. She played her college ball at Wake Forest from 1987-1991. Upon graduating, she was an assistant coach at VCU, East Carolina, James Madison, Memphis, Virginia, and California. She received her first head coaching job at High Point University in 2011, but that only lasted one season as she was hired by her alma mater following the season. As head coach at Wake Forest, she has had just one winning season in 2016.

Last Year: The Deacons were the bottom dweller in the ACC last year, going just 1-15 in conference play. They finished with a 10-20 record, but gave Syracuse a game on the road losing just 77-75.

Last Game: Wake lost a tight game to No. 14 FSU last time out, but outscored the Seminoles in the 46-35 in the second half after a slow start. Ivana Raca scored a career high 27 points. They were down by 21 points in the third quarter before going on a great run.

“Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: Let’s stay with Ivana Raca as she has been the exact player that has given Syracuse trouble this season. Her ability to score inside and rebound has led to a lot of Wake’s success this season. Engstler and Strautmane need to step up to quiet Raca.

If Syracuse Wins: A step in the right direction, but this needs to be the beginning of a good stretch the Orange need to go on to keep their at-large hopes alive.

If Syracuse loses: You guys smell smoke in here? Syracuse will likely need to win the ACC Tournament because things could not be going worse.

Fun Fact: Wake Forest senior Alex Sharp is a native Australian, so Tiana Mangakahia may see a familiar face today.
