Syracuse women’s basketball vs. Florida State: TV/streaming, time, history & more

The Orange lost a close one to a great team last time around. Can they score the upset in this one?

NCAA Womens Basketball: Louisville at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team looks to start the new year off right with a win vs. No. 8 Florida State.

Teams: Syracuse Orange (6-6, 0-1) vs. No. 8 Florida State Seminoles (13-0, 2-0)

Day and Time: Thursday January 2, 8 p.m. ET.

Location: Carrier Dome (School Night)

Where to Watch: ACC Network

FSU Blog: Tomahawk Nation

Current Streak: 2, Syracuse

Last Meeting: Syracuse last beat the Seminoles in Tallahassee by a score of 94-88, thanks to a stellar 44 (#brand) points from Tiana Mangakahia. No other Syracuse player would score more than 10 in that game.

Head Coaches: Syracuse - Quentin Hillsman (14th year, 294-151 at SU). Florida State - Sue Semrau (23rd year, 464-249 at FSU).

Coach Bio: Sue Semrau has been the head coach for the Seminoles since 1997, going to 15 NCAA tournaments during her time. She has had seven consecutive 20+ win seasons in Tallahassee, and this season looks no different, as she has her team off to a 13-0 start. In 2013, she won the Kay Yow Coach of the Year, and in 2015 won the AP Coach of the year. She is also the all time winningest coach as Florida State. The Seattle native spent two seasons at the University of Washington during her college playing days, before transferring to UC San Diego for her final two. She has yet to reach a Final Four.

Last Year: The Seminoles had a really similar year to the Orange last year. They played very well in the ACC and made the NCAA Tournament before being bounced in the Round of 32 by South Carolina.

Last Game: FSU kept things moving as they have all year, beating Virginia Tech 86-62 at home.

“Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: Nausia Woolfolk is just 36 points shy of being a 1,000-point scorer at FSU, and her team leading 15.6 a game could spell trouble for the Orange as they try to pull off the upset at home. Last game against Syracuse, she scored a career high 29 in a losing effort. Let’s try to not let that happen again.

If Syracuse Wins: NEEDED IT. This is Syracuse’s fourth straight game against a ranked opponent. We know this team is a lot better than their record, and beating an undefeated Seminoles team would be huge for the resume.

If Syracuse loses: Meh. Would really like this one. Still plenty of opportunities ahead, but gotta start winning some of these games in order to make the NCAAs. Close losses will only take you so far.
