Rivalry: 5-2, Clemson

Current Streak: 1, Clemson

First Meeting: The 1996 Gator Bowl saw Paul Pasqualoni’s squad drop 41 on a hapless Clemson, shutting out the Tigers with Donovan McNabb earning MVP honors.

Last Meeting: Syracuse knocked Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson’s home contest down in Death Valley, leading 23-13 with 12:58 to go in the game. Clemson responded with two touchdown drives, the final one scored with just 41 seconds on the clock as the Tigers edged the Orange 27-23. That would be the closest anyone played Clemson the rest of the season.

Head Coaches: Syracuse: Dino Babers (4th season at SU, 19-20); Clemson: Dabo Swinney (12th season, 118-30)

Coach Bio: A walk-on wide receiver at Alabama, Swinney won the 1992 National Title as a student athlete. He became a graduate assistant after his playing career ended, and stuck with ‘Bama as a positions coach from 1996-2000. After taking a few seasons off, Swinney was hired at Clemson in 2003, before being promoted to interim head coach in 2008. Dabo shaped the program in 2009-10, winning double digit games in 2011 and never looking back. Since then, Clemson has won two national titles and Swinney is in the conversation with Nick Saban for best current head coach in college football.

Last Year: If you’re new to college football, welcome! Clemson won the whole damn thing in remarkably convincing fashion with a true freshman quarterback and broke Nick Saban’s Alabama Death Star to the point they tried lead blocking with a kicker.

Last Game: The Tigers played what many consider to be their toughest regular season game, defeating Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M Aggies 24-10 at home. This could be the closest any team plays them until Conference Championship weekend.

”Fear Me, I’ve Killed Hundreds of Timelords”: The Tigers have a ton of NFL ready talent on the roster and a QB who is already considered to be the No. 1 NFL Pick when he’s eligible (2021 Draft), so a ton of players fit. I’m going with Travis Etienne, who scored three touchdowns on 203 yards versus the Orange last year. And most experts think he’s gotten stronger and faster in the offseason.

If Syracuse Wins: LMAO THE MOST ‘CUSE THING EVER

If Syracuse Loses: Nothing really changes, as this was always the expected loss on the schedule, even with the most optimistic of outlooks. It will sting a ton more if it’s a blowout.

Fun Fact: Since Dabo’s first double-digit win season (2011), only four head coaches have defeated his Clemson team twice or more: Jimbo Fisher (3x), Steve Spurrier (3x), Nick Saban (2x), and Paul Johnson (2x).
